Aside from being one of Japan's biggest box office attraction, Takeru Satoh further confirms that he has what it takes to level up his acting. In the recent 85th Television Drama Awards, Satoh won Best Actor, and his TV drama The Emperor's Cook (Tenno no Ryoriban) grabbed 6 major awards, including Drama of the Year, Best Director, Screenwriter, Supporting Actor and Actress and Theme Song.

Based on the non-fiction novel "Tenno no Ryoriban" by Hisahide Sugimori, the TBS drama received one of the highest audience share of 18.2% and is about a young man who became a chef at the Hotel Ritz in Paris, France. He further elevated his status when at the age of 26, he becomes the chef for the Emperor of Japan. In order to prepare for the role, it was reported that Satoh actually took cooking lessons.

There were a couple of mentions about this drama for me to review, hence I wanted to see for myself what the hype is all about. I've followed Satoh in his so-called acting journey from the time he was cast at Kenshin in the highly-successful Rurouni Kenshin trilogy was back in 2012 and felt he is the better actor to fellow Amuse talent, Haruma Miura.

PsychoDrama covered his 6 1/2 years anniversary as an actor and even made a countdown for the first "Samurai X" movie. Lately, his prominence was eclipsed by other highly-regarded actors, thus the lack of real coverage. We'll see what we can cover up ahead...
